Bundling up against the brisk winds of winter in the north, let me warm you up with some lovely Tynemouth engagement photography! We are headed to the sandy stretches of Longsands beach, where even a chilly March morning couldn’t dampen the spirits of the adventurous Kirby and Connor. Longsands is one of my go-to spots for engagement shoots in Newcastle, even when March decides to throw in a bit of that icy wind. But these two lovebirds? Absolute troopers.
Newcastle engagement photography locations – Longsands beach
Longsands in Tynemouth is a dreamy stretch of sandy goodness in Tynemouth. You’ll find me there at least a few times a week with the dog. It’s got The View restaurant on one end and Crusoe’s on the other, where I’ve got a wedding booked this summer! Imagine those sunset couple shots on the beach – I can’t wait! When the tide is out, it’s huge, and has the pretty backdrop of Tynemouth and The Grand Hotel behind it. It’s super easy to get to – there’s a car park right at the top of the cliff, so it’s a great option for an couples session. Plus if you fancy, a casual stroll to Cullercoats for some bay shots is totally doable.
Kirby and Connor, my adventurous couple from Cumbria, rolled in for a beachy weekend in their campervan. They’d been to book their wedding venue the day before, so it was very much a big weekend! We met at The View at 8am on a Sunday, and the beach was already full with dog walkers.
I love mixing up backdrops during my sessions, starting with easy-breezy walking shots to ease into the shoot. Kudos to Kirby and Connor – they took jackets off without me saying a word! It was that kind of cold where my eyes were streaming behind the camera.
After some walking shots, I pulled out a towel for some cosy sitting shots by the dune. Honestly, those turned out to be my favourites – relaxed, cute, and complete with a surprise visit from a friendly cocker spaniel who, in the process, gifted my camera with a bit of sandy love. The perils of beach sessions. Totally worth it!
Looking at these shots, you’d think it was a summer day, not a freezing spring morning!
Why choose a beach engagement photography session in Newcastle?
Ok so why would you consider the beach for your engagement photography in Tynemouth? A beach session is really great as it gives a lot of different options for poses and backdrops. If it was warmer, you could do a lot more sat in the sand – cuddled up is an excuse to get those closer, more emotive and intimate photos. I also love it when couples are happy to get into the water. Those photos of couples paddling in the waves? Absolute gold, and they make for some lovely wide location shots. Because beaches tend not to have much texture or busy backgrounds, they’re also perfect for shots that focus on you. They almost give a minimalist feel to the shots, and the colours are so natural. Perfect!
