Happy new year everyone! And to all the 2025 couples who can finally say they’re getting married this year – congratulations 🙂 But, before we get too far into ’25, I want to take a look back at 2024 and some of my favourite photos/moments from a busy season of wedding photography in the north east 🙂
These ‘best of the year’ blogs are always difficult as I find it so hard to whittle down what is 1000’s of photos, to just a handful. Think of this as more of my favourite ‘moments’ rather than photos. I love a look back and this year I photographed some of my favourite weddings ever. These give a good sum up of my 2024 🙂
#1 My first wedding of 2024 – a colourful elopement at Marylebone Town Hall
Kicking off with my very first wedding of the year! On a pretty cold February morning I travelled down to London for Nadia and Ben’s elopement. They tied the knot at one of my favourite old haunts, the Old Marylebone Town Hall, with just a handful of their close friends. I feel like this shot just set my tone for the whole year. Lots of colour, awesome wedding outfits and an abundance of joy!
#2 Angela and Tilly – 2024 was the year of dogs at weddings
I think 2024 was the year I photographed more dogs at weddings then ever before. A total win! For those that follow me, you’ll know I have a cavapoo and I absolutely adore my couples having their dogs at their weddings! Here’s Angela with gorgeous Tilly who definitely stole the show and knew exactly what to do in front of camera!
#3 – Ellie & Sol’s wedding portraits on Newcastle Quayside
Ellie & Sol kicked off my Newcastle weddings with a ceremony at North Tyneside register office. After, we headed down to the Quayside to get some portraits before their reception at The Baltic. The Tyne Bridge in the background, the vibrancy of Ellie’s bouquet and the look between them makes this one of my favourite photos from the whole day.
#4 – Taking cover from the rain in the Central Arcade, Newcastle
On a very wet and wild September day, Hal & Michael had an intimate wedding at Gateshead Registry Office. They’d booked a lunch after in Newcastle city centre, but when I say it was howling outside, I really mean it! I guess as a north east wedding photographer I should partly expect it. Luckily, in the middle of Newcastle is this absolute gem. I blooming love this stunning location, and the fact that this gorgeous couple just had a twirl about and within 10 minutes we had some gorgeous shots!
#5 Colourful wedding portraits at The Croft with Billie
Ok, I’m posting 3 photos here so I’m cheating, but it’s my blog so I’m going to! Another series of photos that I think sums up my year – colourful, relaxed and very dog friendly. Gordon and Sarah booked me for relaxed coverage of their wedding at The Croft in November, and I just love all the colour and vibrancy. Billie the retriever had a starring role and did so well posing for the photo on the right!
#6 Bridesmaids reunited
One of the best things about my job is when friends or family of past couples book me for their weddings too. Jenna, on the right was one of my past brides, and I’d worked with most of these bridesmaids at her wedding. Vicky was now taking centre stage as bride and it was super lush to see everyone again! Relaxed shots like these are my absolute favourites.
#7 – Marta looking like a queen at Bamburgh Castle
My birthday falls in August, and normally I always make sure I give myself the day off. However, as soon as an enquiry from lovely Barry and Marta came through telling me about their Bamburgh Castle wedding, I immediately changed my mind for this year. I’ve already blogged this wedding in full and raved on about how much I loved Bamburgh Castle as a wedding venue, but this is my favourite shot from the day. As you look at some photos through the back of the camera, you know immediately they’re a winner. To me this looks like an editorial fashion shot or something I’d take on a styled shoot, not a real wedding. Marta looks like a full on powerful queen of the castle, which I love!
#8 Blazing red cool at Full Circle Brewery
Back at the start of the year I organised a styled wedding shoot at Full Circle Brewery with a crack team of amazing suppliers! I want to meet other north east wedding suppliers and let out some creativity! I brought along my own vintage Mini, and lovely Jess and Mason, one of my 2025 couples modelled for me. This photo will forever remind me of an absolutely brilliant day of creativity, colour and collaboration! Everything about it oozes cool.
#9 Pups and street art wedding portraits in the Ouseburn
At the start of 2024, I ran a competition for a lucky couple to win their wedding photographer. Lois and Ben were my winners and were having a super chilled out ceremony followed by a big shindig at Tyne Bank Brewery. The prize couldn’t have gone to a sweeter couple! We managed to steal some time in the day to do wedding portraits with their beloved dogs in the Ouseburn. Sadly two of their pups passed away not long after, so now these memories will be even more treasured. It’s also a reminder of why photos matter so much.
#10 Pastel 1960s vibes at the Old Cow Shed
Before wedding season kicked off I took part in another styled shoot with the most incredible team of creative wedding suppliers. It was a long day – I was up at 5am to drive down to the Old Cow Shed for this, and we crammed 2 shoots in to one day. Totally worth it! The second shoot was this pastel, ethereal look with a 1960’s vibe. I embraced the opportunity to do something a bit different and used my prism throughout to create the cool kaleidoscope effect and almost blend Phoebe with the linens. Totally in love with the results!
And so, that’s that! A little round up of some of my favourite moments in 2024. It was a wild year of relocating, buying a house, getting pregnant and somehow managing to shoot 25 weddings all over the country at the same time. Bring on 2025! I’m on maternity in spring but will be looking forward to getting back behind my camera for weddings in summer 🙂 Happy new year!
