Vibrant & fun wedding photography at Northside Farm

Last summer, Anna and Jeff booked me for their wedding photography at Northside Farm in Northumberland. As soon as they booked me I knew it was going to a super fun day, and I wasn’t wrong! Read on for a surprise ceremony singalong, a summer heatwave and a sequin jumpsuit outfit change.

Northside Farm wedding venue

Northside Farm is a former dairy farm, recently converted into a rural Northumberland wedding venue. The main feature of the venue is the beautiful stone barn which can hold up to 150 ceremony guests or a whopping 250 for the party! You can also have an outdoor ceremony in the garden, or in their ‘Gingang’ space.

There’s glamping and cottage accommodation so you can hire the whole place and have a full wedding weekend if you liked! And that is exactly what Anna and Jeff did!

Wedding prep at Northside Farm

Anna and Jeff’s wedding was in July, on a boiling hot peak summer day. I arrived to find final rehearsals in the barn and guests around the glamping areas getting changed and ready. The good thing about Northside Farm is with so much space, I can photograph both parties getting ready! I popped into Jeff first, then headed into the dressing room to find Anna.

Wedding ceremony in the barn with a surprise Grease singalong

Anna and Jeff had gone full vibrancy when it came to their wedding decor, which you know is always my favourite! The bright tassels in the barn really added an amazing splash of colour to the space, and worked with their florals so well.

Anna walked down the aisle with their beautiful daughter, towards Jeff and one of their close friends who was officiating.

Anna is part of a band, the fabulous Tootsie Rollers, who got up mid-ceremony to do a song with the bride herself. There was also then a surprise for the groom. Within the running orders on the seats, was a Grease singalong… which Jeff knew nothing about until a mic was handed to him! He took it well and the whole place had an inpromptu sing. I can honestly say it was a lovely wedding first for me!

After the first kiss, everyone headed out into the blazing hot sun for confetti and drinks in the garden.

The drinks reception post ceremony is always one of my favourite times to capture all the fun stuff going on. I mingle in like a guest, getting lovely candid photos of all the moments you might miss. This is also when I get all the group photos done. The good thing about Northside Farm is there’s plenty of different spaces to do these, but one stuck out! Their iconic orange tractor fit perfectly with the colours of the wedding, so of course I chose there.

Relaxed and natural wedding portraits on a tractor

After soaking up the rays and many cocktails, guests were called into the wedding breakfast. While everyone headed in, I stole Anna and Jeff aside for some relaxed portraits around the tractor. Honestly, you can feel the sun in these photos!

Once we’d done the photos, Jeff lifted Anna down from the tractor and I captured what was probably my favourite photo of the day. A pure candid moment of joy. This is why I never stop shooting in those little in between moments! They’re normally where the real little gems appear.

Wedding receptions at Northside Farm

While we’d been outside, the stone barn had been transformed from ceremony area to a gorgeous, colourful dining space. Drinks were flowing and there were a number of speeches to get through. I love this space, it’s so pretty! The stone, with the bright wall hangings look so lush. They really add colour to this gallery.

By the time everyone was finished with dinner, the sun was starting to go down over the farm. It was still a roasting hot day so everyone filtered on outside with their drinks. I took the opportunity to get some more more fun, relaxed portraits of Anna and Jeff before the evening party started. In true Anna style, she had an amazing change of outfit! 10/10, loved it.

A wild wedding party at Northside Farm

Anna and Jeff had booked a band for their evening reception, and everyone was super keen to get going on the dance floor! For their first dance, some serious moves were busted! Look at Anna getting proper air here.

As soon as the first dance was over, everyone else crowded onto the floor. I always think evening entertainment is one of the most important things at a wedding! A band is always a great choice as they give a real starting point to the night, and interact with the crowd to get everyone on the right vibe. Don’t just stick on a Spotify playlist!

Once I was finished shooting for the day, I stood outside, watching everyone on the dancefloor, with the music streaming out the open doors of the barn. The sun had set over the fields and it was one of those evenings where I count myself so lucky I’m a wedding photographer! More weddings like this in 2026 please 🙂
