Tapyard Brewery Wedding Photographer: J&J’s day with street art backdrops, dog cameos & Tina Turner

Tapyard Brewery wedding photographer – that’s me, and this summer I had the absolute joy of capturing Jamie and Jonathan’s incredible celebration at one of Newcastle’s most exciting new venues.

As someone who loves brewery weddings, I’d been looking forward to this one from the moment it was booked. The guys were an absolute joy in the lead-up, and having been to Tapyard as a wedding guest, I knew it was going to be a fun celebration.

Tapyard Brewery wedding ceremonies

One of the things I love about wedding photography at Tapyard Brewery is how flexible the space is for ceremonies. You can have a celebrant-led service or even ask a friend to officiate — just like Jonathan and Jamie did. Their mums walked them down the aisle, and one of their closest friends Kirsty led a heartfelt, laughter-filled ceremony. The couple also chose to have a screen in place to hide the ceremony area beforehand, creating an intimate, surprise reveal as guests took their seats.

Right after the “I dos,” we spilled outside for the iconic confetti shots before drinks began to flow. On a blazing 30°C Newcastle day (a rare treat!), beers were poured, prosecco popped, and the atmosphere was buzzing. One of the best things about shooting here is that you don’t need to take couples far from the action for wedding photos. Hoults Yard is packed with brilliant backdrops. Just outside the venue is a striking black street art wall, perfect for group and couple portraits.

I like to do the big group shot at the end of the drinks reception, then whisk my couples away for 5–10 minutes of relaxed portraits while guests head inside for food. Alongside the brewery is a bold blue street art wall that worked beautifully with Jonathan and Jamie’s outfits. The colour contrast was spot-on and a real highlight of the day’s gallery.

There was also a very special guest at this wedding — Arlo, Jonathan and Jamie’s adorable dog! He didn’t stay for long in the summer heat, but he certainly made an entrance, stole the show, posed for a few fab photos, and then headed home for a well-earned rest.

As a wedding photographer, I’m always thrilled when couples bring their dogs along. They’re fantastic at helping people relax during portraits, which means I can capture those really natural, joy-filled shots. And as a huge dog lover myself, I’m always ready for a few quick cuddles in between clicks of the shutter.

A truly flexible wedding venue

One of the things I love about this venue is the freedom it gives couples when it comes to food. While Tapyard doesn’t provide its own catering, that actually means you have endless flexibility — from street food trucks to elegant dining. Hoults Yard is packed with brilliant local options, and the famous Acropolis is right across from the brewery. Jonathan and Jamie embraced the relaxed vibe with a meze-style wedding breakfast from the wonderful Canvas Catering, then brought in an Acropolis truck for their evening food. One regular truck I often see at Hoults Yard weddings is Scream for Pizza. One of the bonuses of being a Newcastle wedding photographer is the chance to grab their veggie pizza… I’m obsessed. After guests enjoyed the grazing platters, they laughed through heartfelt speeches from both dads and the grooms, before spilling back outside into the golden summer sun.

The perfect wedding venue for a big party!

Tapyard is, above all, an incredible events space — which makes it perfect for a big, unforgettable wedding party. With its built-in stage, it’s an ideal spot to bring in a live band or DJ for your evening reception. It looks amazing in party photos thanks in part to the 4,000 fairy lights strung across the venue. I could tell from the very start of the wedding that this crowd was ready to celebrate, and I wasn’t wrong! The grooms chose Tina Turner’s Simply the Best for their first dance – It had the whole room on the dance floor. It was definitely one of those nights where I didn’t want to leave!

Working as a Tapyard Brewery wedding photographer

All in all, I’ve experienced Tapyard Brewery both as a guest and as a wedding photographer. It’s quickly becoming a favourite venue for laidback, non-traditional weddings. While it’s the new kid on the block, it’s incredibly well set up for flexible weddings. You can bring in your own catering, take fun portraits against vibrant street art, and know all your photos will have that undeniably cool, industrial vibe. I absolutely love it! If you’re searching for a Tapyard Brewery wedding photographer, feel free to drop me a message. I’d love to chat about your plans and share tips on how I’d capture your day here!
