Today, I’m sharing my wedding photography from an intimate and emotional same sex wedding ceremony at Newcastle Civic Centre. This was definitely one of those days that reminds me why I love my job, and had me reaching for the tissues.
Newcastle Civic Centre wedding ceremonies
As a Newcastle wedding photographer, the Civic Centre is always one of my favourite places to work. I have always been obsessed with vintage, so the retro interior is my kind of dream. It definitely gets my creative juices going! If you like Wes Anderson and symmetry, this is probably a Newcastle wedding venue for you. They have lots of different suites in there, so you can elope with just 2 witnesses, or you can get up to 600 guests in the Banqueting Hall!
While Claire was having her interview, I stepped into a side room with Molly to capture her Dad’s first look. I love a little moment like this. I’m also totally obsessed with this outfit. The embroidery has my heart!
Collingwood Suite Wedding in Newcastle Civic Centre
Claire and Molly had booked the Collingwood Suite for their ceremony. It’s light and bright with lovely silk on the wall, but keeping the retro walnut too. They wanted to keep their whole day low key and relaxed, so had invited just their closest friends and family.
Claire was waiting for Molly at the top of the aisle as she walked down with her Dad. I knew we were in for a lovely ceremony as there were tears straight away as they saw each other.
Cue me trying not to sob behind my cameras.
Molly and Claire had written their own vows for each other and boy, were they good ones. This ceremony clearly meant everything and everyone in the room was wiping their eyes. They also referenced the fact that just 12 years ago, they wouldn’t have been allowed to marry. For me, this always makes same sex weddings all the more special and important.
I always continue shooting after the first kiss as it’s normally the moments just after this which offer up some gorgeous photos. I love this intimate hug and these little close up moments of affection.
Retro wedding portraits at Newcastle Civic Centre
There’s plenty of different spots in the Civic Centre for wedding portraits. My favourite is the green sofa in the waiting room, and there’s the hallway / lift area too. All very retro and makes for some really stylish photos.
