This week I want to shine a spotlight on my favourite alternative bridal boutiques in the North East. The big white dress is what normally comes to mind for bridalwear, but I love brides who ditch the tradition. I believe you should be able to wear whatever you like on your wedding day, as long as it makes you feel amazing! From tailored suits, to short dresses and ombre coloured gowns, I love it all. Here’s my Top 5 rundown of my favourite alternative boutiques in Newcastle and beyond!
1. Bexbrides
To start, we are venturing to Darlington to visit Bexbride’s unique boutique in a converted stable. This is an absolute treasure trove of eclectic bridalwear. Bex specialises in bespoke, vintage, and ombre wedding dresses for the bride who’s looking for something a little different. She also has a host of bridal accessories, ranging from bespoke and ombre capes, veils and jewellery. If you fancy a boutique experience with a difference, head to Darlington to have a rummage through her collections and range of accessories. My favourite items are her star capes or coloured wedding dresses.
2. Soul Bride (by Nico)
You’ll find Soul Bride in the beautiful Mackie’s Corner in the centre of Sunderland. Gemma at Soul Bride’s aim is to create an unforgettable experience and cater to every bride’s individuality. Her boutique studio is homely and draws you in. Dresses are ethically sourced named after iconic flowers, healing crystals or musicians. The rails are full of modern, boho and eclectic dresses. My favourite pieces at the moment are her peach gown or range of lace bohemian dresses.
3. Sisters of Grace
in the centre of Newcastle, you’ll find Sisters of Grace, an alternative bridal boutique specialising in contemporary, luxe dresses and bridal separates. Aimed at free spirited brides, I adore their collection which ranges from ethereal laces, to cool girl sleek dresses or whimsical vintage inspired gowns. I couldn’t even pick a favourite as it changes every time depending on my mood! Danni and her team aim to give her cool brides a modern approach to bridal.
4. House of Mooshki
If you’re on the hunt for something totally different, I’ve got you! In Seaham, you’ll find House of Mooshki. This bridal boutique specialises in vintage inspired bridal tea dresses. Think flattering 1950s styles and cuts, each custom made and designed. If you’d like something a little more contemporary, you’ll also find them housing Grace Philips’ collection.
5. Exquisite Elle Bridal
For our final stop in my favourite alternative bridal boutiques in the North East, we’re heading to Gateshead. Exquisite Elle Bridal opened three years ago and has a wealth of off-the-peg colourful, floral and black wedding dresses. Elle claims she only buys her dresses once, in one size, so you can guarantee you’re getting a one of a kind!
