I live in North Shields and I’m a regular photographing weddings at the North Tyneside Register Office. It’s quite literally a stone’s throw from my front door so I know the venue and area really well. Here’s one of my favourite little weddings from the summer, featuring street art and beach portraits!

North Tyneside Register Office in North Shields
The North Tyneside register office aka North Shields is a very cute little register office right on the edge of the Tyne. It has 2 ceremony rooms avaliable to book. You can read more on my ‘What to expect if you’re getting married in North Shields‘ blog. Todays wedding features the smaller room, The River Suite.
Debra & Steven messaged me just a few days before their ceremony, asking if I was free. Luckily as I live so close I was free and super excited to photograph their wedding for them!
Intimate wedding ceremony at North Tyneside Register Office
They’d invited just their closest family and little daughter along to the official wedding, before a larger shin dig at Tapyard Brewery. I always love ceremonies at the register office as the officiants are so nice and relaxed.

Debra walked in by herself and then there was a lovely, simple ceremony. Their daughter presented the rings, and had a very cute little banner for the occasion.

After signing the register, we were sent upstairs to the terrace where you can do confetti and take photos overlooking the Tyne. Now, this was peak summer, but it is also North Shields. It was very windy so we didn’t do much there. I’m actually amazed we managed to get any confetti shots before it had blown out of sight immediately.

Luckily the front of the building was a bit more sheltered, and we’d already planned to go down to the Quay for portraits too. We’d specifically chatted about the new street art down there, which I was really excited about using as a backdrop.

Wedding photography on the Fish Quay, North Shields
The Fish Quay is a 10 minute stroll from the register office, straight down the ‘Salt Market steps’ as they’ve been dubbed locally. As it happens, Salt Market Social is also an amazing wedding reception venue . Very good to know if you’re getting married here!
There’s loads of places for portraits in the area. The steps down themselves are nice, the working Quay, the river, the beach etc.. You name it, there’s a spot.
Last year, as part of a ‘I Love North Shields’ project, a whole new selection of murals were painted around Shields. One of them was by PreFab77, right in the centre of the quay. It is huge, and a perfect backdrop for some photos.

I love how these turned out! The pops of colour from Debra & Steven’s outfits and flowers look so good contrasted against the black and white wall. After 5 minutes here, we quickly ran to the beach.
It was a bit on the windy side down there, but we braved it for quickly for some lush photos.

If you’re getting married at North Tyneside register office I’d love to hear from you. Pop me a message if you are looking for a colourful, fun and relaxed wedding photographer for your day.
