London Wedding Photographer: Bea & Radu’s Winter Chelsea Town Hall Wedding

As a London wedding photographer, I shoot in town halls all over the city! On the blog today, Bea and Radu celebrate their love with their Chelsea Town Hall wedding. Keep scrolling to see their festive couple’s portraits along the King’s Road and dancing shots in an incredible coloured glass tunnel.

Bea and Radu were one of the lucky ones when it came to Lockdown 2.0! Having postponed several times already, their latest date fell just after lockdown was going to come in. Luckily, Chelsea Town Hall offered them a last minute cancellation meaning they could get married the day before lockdown!

2020 COVID restrictions at Chelsea Town Hall

Because of restrictions, only myself and 2 witnesses joined Bea and Radu in the Harrington Room for their ceremony. I wasn’t allowed to the front of the room, so had to shoot fully from the back/side where possible. There was also no signing of the register.

This year, I’ve found such small weddings so special and emotional. The whole thing was also filmed for Bea & Radu’s families back in Moldova. A great idea if your family can’t attend!

After the ceremony, we gathered on the steps for the famous ‘confetti’ shots! Sophie and Rebecca, Bea and Radu’s witnesses, had cannons at the ready, and it was so sweet to see Bea and Radu beaming as they walked out.

Chelsea Town Hall Weddings: What you need to know

This iconic London registry office is a beautiful Grade II listed building in the heart of Chelsea, on the trendy King’s Road.

If you’re thinking of tying the knot at Chelsea Town Hall, you’re in famous company. Pierce Brosnan (my favourite Bond), Hugh Grant, Judy Garland and my favourite, Marc Bolan, all got married here! The Independent branded it as one of the ‘hippest places to get married’.

There are three main rooms at Chelsea Town Hall:

  • The Brydon Room – Capacity 38, from £535
  • The Harrington Room – Capacity 8, from £230
  • The Rossetti Room – Capacity 12, from £350

You can see all costs for the different rooms at Chelsea Town Hall on the official website , or contact them directly on 020 7361 4100.

Where to do couple’s portraits after a Chelsea Town Hall ceremony?

Bea and Radu booked my ‘Emerald’ micro-wedding package which includes a couple’s shoot post ceremony. I’d already scoped out some potential locations along London’s famous King’s Road, so off we went.

We started by this lovely little gardens just off the main road. The winter sunlight was coming through to perfectly back light Bea and Radu, and it was a little sanctuary of quiet from the bustle of the road.

After, we wandered further up King’s Road towards Sloane Square where the Christmas lights had been put up. As soon as I walked past this installation earlier in the day, I knew I wanted to use it for wedding portraits!

This backdrop was such a gorgeous visual momento of their wedding date and location. Christmas is a great time to get married at Chelsea Town Hall as so many shops also have fun Christmas installations!

Our final destination for our couple’s shoot was by the Saatchi Gallery. There was an incredible coloured glass tunnel which I knew would look amazing, especially with the sunlight streaming through behind Bea and Radu.

Normally my portraits are pretty nature focused with lots of greens and natural colours, so this was a real chance to play with something a bit different! London weddings are great for this – there are so many backdrops to play with.

We ended with these lovely seated shots just next to the gallery. Bea and Radu’s fun personalities shrone through in these images. We also all had a buzz from the fact they had beaten COVID and managed to finally become Mr & Mrs!
