London Wedding Photographer: Alternative London Venues – One Friendly Place Greenwich

When I started out as a wedding photographer, One Friendly Place Greenwich was one of the first venues I shot at. I was seconding shot for Robin Ball Photography at the time, but it stuck in my memory as a venue I would love to go back to. In 2019, I shot Jo and Liz’s alternative London wedding there!

Built in the 1930s, One Friendly Place Greenwich was a spice warehouse, tucked away on a private road in Deptford. It’s warehouse charm is not your traditional venue. Think exposed walls, brightly coloured murals and abstract art. If you start to feel a bit tired there is even a double bed upstairs to rest your dancing feet for a while!

Affectionately known as one of the quirkiest venues in London, One Friendly Place has a bit of everything. Alongside the main space, there is a little greenhouse area with peacock chairs and plants.. This is one of my favourite areas in the whole building for portraits. For their wedding, Jo and Liz turned it into San Junipero from Netflix’s Black Mirror episode.

Because of the different floors you can have your pick on how to arrange the venue for your wedding. I personally love the larger space downstairs for dining. It looked absolutely amazing with these large hanging florals.

If you head up a gorgeous wrought iron staircase you come out on the rooftop, overlooking south London. This is the perfect place for group shots or sunset portraits. If anyone knows me by now, you know I love a sunset portrait!

One Friendly Place Greenwich is the venue for you if you’re a couple who loves colour, quirky props, mismatched furniture and a sense of untouched industrial charm.

I personally loved this venue because the sense of fun that came off it. It’s a good blank canvas, but ready and waiting with props to use as wanted. There are so many things you could do with this space! I’ve seen tons of different setups at this venue. Each wedding can be totally unique! For me, the portrait opportunities are endless. The peacock chairs in the conservatory, the coloured abstract walls, the rooftop – all make for fantastic couples backdrops.
