I love to look at the trends of the wedding sphere and see how they progress over time. 2019 wedding trends follow on seamlessly from 2018’s trends, and we generally see a step towards much more informal, personalised days. Here are 8 of my favourites:
-
Ditch the dress
Two pieces have been floating around for a few years but crop tops have now crossed over from just casual wear. More and more brides are opting for flowing skirts or trousers with a delicate crop top above. Happily, jumpsuits are still huge and that doesn’t look set to change. If I could live in a jumpsuit, I totally would!
2. Bring the outdoors in
Greenery and heavy floral influences were popular in 2018, and I’m happy to say this is set to continue in 2019! Couples are increasingly bringing the outdoors in. Greenery is so simple (which perhaps reflects the growing trend for more stripped back weddings), but can make a real statement. Greenery inspired ceremony backdrops or large greenery trails looks incredible, particularly in a minimalist wedding venue. The trend for hanging centrepieces also matches perfectly with this look. Check out my Pinterest board for plenty of beautiful greenery inspiration.
3. Rich, dark colours
Burgundy was one of my favourite trends of last year, and it appears the moody colours are still in favour. Rich tones do bring a gorgeous hue, particularly to winter or spring weddings. If you’re looking to add a bit of drama, this trend may be for you! Expect to see a good amount of black in 2019.
4. Velvet
Another trend that was on my 2018 list, velvet is set to remain on the list for another year. A versatile textile, velvet can add richness and a feeling of luxury to your big day. This trend is the perfect partner for the rich and dark colours of 2019 – I can totally picture winter weddings this year with velvet table accessories in deep navy, or black.
5. Sustainable weddings
It’s not surprising that more couples are opting for a sustainable wedding day as environmental issues are increasingly in the forefront of everyone’s minds. You can make all aspects eco-friendly, from sourcing an ethical wedding dress, right through to sustainable favour ideas. I have a whole board dedicated to sustainable weddings over on Pinterest, and am expecting to write a full blog on this topic soon!
6. Alternative Food
Foodies behold! Forget canapés or a traditional wedding buffet, grazing tables are the new mouth-watering trend. Plenty of suppliers have popped up specialising in incredible looking grazing tables – think cheeses, fruit, meats etc. They look as good visually as they do taste wise! Many couples are also now moving away from the wedding breakfast set up, and opting for more relaxed options. Food trucks, sharing pizzas and BBQ buffets are starting to pop up in the majority of my wedding bookings.
7. Mis-matched bridal party
Perhaps as weddings get more personal and stripped back, brides are now opting to let their bridal party choose their own bridesmaids dresses. I’ve seen some truly beautiful combinations of cuts, patterns and lengths, all hinged around a base colour palette. It’s been lovely to see patterns making a comeback – bohemian floral gowns are all over social media!
8. Royal influence
Whether you love them or hate them, the Royals have influenced the wedding sphere, thanks to Meghan and Harry’s star studded event last summer. Meghan’s elegant dress has paved the way for a return of classical, simple gowns. Halter necks are back, as well as perfectly tailored simple cuts.
