My last two wedding blogs have been for tipi weddings – I apologise, I just love them! My last was featuring Jonny & Jay’s South African themed wedding at Vanstone Park in Hertfordshire. Today, I have an irresistible rustic tipi wedding down in Hampshire.
Back in peak summer, Tanya and Claire married underneath the trees in a sun dappled copse at the beautiful Dummer Down Farm. Their reception took place just a few paces away under the cover of a White Bison Tipi.
Tanya arrived at the farm in a super cool VW Pick up truck, decorated with blue ribbon. Guests sat on covered hay bales under the shady trees. Tanya’s best woman walked their puppy down the aisle, all made up for the occasion in an adorable bow tie. After the ceremony, guests had a drinks reception down by the walled garden of Dummer Down Farm’s main house.
Tanya hand made many of the details, including place name holders, signs, and the table planner. She even made some small photos frames to be attached to each bouquet. These had small photos of family members that sadly had passed away and couldn’t see the two marry. Such a thoughtful idea.
We did our first group of portraits down by the super cute red bricked farmhouse. All the flowers were out so there was colour everywhere, and I loved the small garden just in front of the main house.
I really loved the colours of this wedding. The navy bridesmaids dresses paired with grey looks so eye catching, and the bouquets are so bright and cheerful. The coral flowers pop so beautifully.
The whole wedding day was super chilled out, with loads of different areas – Dummer Down Farm is a great venue if you’re after space! You could go and have some quiet time on the hay bales in the copse, sit under a canopy, play games in the back field, or move into the tipi nearer the bar.
I remember the happy couple telling me on their engagement shoot one of the most important things was their guests having fun. They had definitely made sure of this! There was a bouncy castle, plenty of outdoor games, and a photo booth. So much effort had gone into creating everything. The sweet treats had even been made by a talented friend – the wood effect on the wedding cake was so impressive!
As the sun (very slowly) started to go down, Tanya got changed to an awesome suit and we took some portraits with the VW.
As it was such high summer, we left before it even got dark. I remember walking down the field towards my car, looking back at the gorgeous copse with the sun fading against the tipi. By this time, everyone was on the dance floor and ready to party the night away. It was a truly joy filled day, and makes me think fondly of the summer months and outdoor weddings.
Huge thank you to Alex Petty for second shooting this day with me!
