I've known Lydia for over ten years now - having met over a mutual love for a local band when we were both living down near Southampton, she was my long standing gig buddy, and we have spent many evenings dancing and drinking more than we should together. When she asked me to photograph her big day I was thrilled.
The wedding was at the beautiful Redcoats Farmhouse in Hitchin. A rural hotel, it's now being renovated and its disused barn is being converted into a new wedding venue. As a huge fan of barn weddings, I personally can't wait to see what it looks like once finished! The ceremony was held in the conservatory of the hotel, and to be honest, I was trying not to bawl as soon as I saw Tom's face when we got his first glimpse of Lydia in her wedding dress.
After, guests were treated to canapés and drinks out on the lawn, before moving into a marquee set up next to the hotel. Lydia and Tom had made a lot of the decorations themselves, and with them sharing a love of cycling, I was pleased to see gorgeous vintage bikes outside with handmade bunting on them. The speeches themselves were a highlight - Tom's brothers and sister created a 3-pronged best man/woman speech, incorporating a spin the wheel game of embarrassing stories, the like of which I have never seen before!
During speeches, the conservatory was transformed into a dance area, with the incredible Swanvesta Social Club ready to bring the tunes. There were some serious moves busted :)
